Q?

What is the most painful spot on the body to get a tattoo? What is the least painful?

A.

First of all, tattoos hurt. However, getting a tattoo is usually less painful than things you experience in daily life, like stubbing your toe, or being scratched by a cat. Each person will have their own experience.

The most painful thing would be getting the wrong tattoo in a spot that you wish it wasn’t. The most important thing is to get what you want, not what you think you can handle. Don’t let short-term thoughts of pain change the long term vision of your tattoo. Enjoy the hunt!

“It must be painful, it must be permanent and it must leave a mark.” Capt. Howdy

Q?

How small can I get my tattoo

A.

If you have to ask you probably won't like the answer. Tattoos done to small do not last the test of time. In a consultation we can go over what will, what won't and what can or can't be done.

Q?

Can I go swimming with my fresh tattoo?

A.

Do not go swimming with a fresh tattoo until it is completely healed. Remember a tattoo is an open wound until it has healed. In a pool the chemicals can bleach out the color. In a lake or river the chances of infection are high. If the tattoo is scabbed over, the scabs will be damaged and the healing possess will have to start over.

Q?

How do I send in my artwork to get tattooed?

A.

Just e-mail it to us at tattoo@ultimatearts.com or bring it in to the studio on your phone, flash drive, or on your phone.  Please feel free to bring the original if you can.

Preferred formats are .pdf .jpg .tiff .gif or .bmp. A larger file is preferred over a small or over-compressed file.

If you need more assistance please feel free to contact us at the above address.

Q?

Do you use new needles or do you re-use them?

A.

At Ultimate Arts Custom Tattoo we use a new needle for each and every client. Ultimate Arts was the first tattoo studio in Madison to use this standard. Even though state law does not require the use of a new needle we believe the quality of a brand new needle far surpasses a worn needle that has been used on countless individuals.

Q?

Can I get a tattoo on my hands, feet or face at Ultimate Arts?

A.

The skin on the hands, feet and face is different from skin on most other parts of the body. Because of this it is less likely to heal well. We evaluate requests on a case by case basis to determine if it is a piece that should be done.

Q?

How can I get a tattoo to fit my body’s shape?

A.

We design most of our tattoos to fit the individual. One way we can do that is to draw the artwork directly onto your skin, so the piece will fit you exactly. Another option is to use digital technology. We first take a digital photo of the area you wish to place the tattoo. Then we fit the design on to the picture so it can be manipulated to fit you.

Basically we will tailor the tattoo to fit you.

Q?

If I am under 18 can I get a tattoo with my parents’ permission?

A.

Wisconsin state law says: “No person under 18 years of age may be tattooed except by a physician in the course of the physician’s professional practice, as permitted under s.948.70 (3), Stats.”

In other words: No, we will not tattoo you unless you can provide proof that you are 18 or older. ID required for all ages.

Q?

Do I need to make an appointment?

A.

No, but we work mainly by appointment* Sunday through Friday. On Saturdays we take walk-ins*. If we have an opening on the schedule Sunday through Friday we will be glad to take you as a walk-in.

*Appointments are best made in person, by calling the studio @ 608-249-7352 or e-mailing tattoo@ultimatearts.com (Deposits are required for appointments)

*On Saturdays some of the artists may take appointments then the rest of the day is for walk ins. You will want to be there early to assure we can get you in. Saturdays can get very busy depending on the time of the year.

Q?

Do you do piercing?

A.

No, we do not do any piercing at Ultimate Arts. We prefer to concentrate on doing quality tattooing. Adding piercing would take away from the time we need to create the perfect personal expression you deserve.

Q?

Does it make a difference which artist does my tattoo?

A.

Yes. Each artist has his or her own style. To decide which artist’s style you like best, we recommend that you view their portfolios, which are available both on this site and in the studio. The portfolios will give you a good idea of the quality and style to expect from that artist.

Q?

Why do you recommend that I don’t re-bandage my new tattoo?

A.

Re-bandaging will suffocate your tattoo and cause the skin to push out color. Your skin needs the air to grow a protective layer over the tattoo to seal it. If you need convincing about the affects of suffocating the skin, remember what your finger looks like when you take a Band-Aid off after a day or so. The skin is moist and much lighter. You don’t want this for your tattoo.

Q?

How much does it cost to get a tattoo from Ultimate Arts?

A.

We base our fees on how long it will take to complete the artwork. The only way for us to give a proper quote is for you to stop in to the studio so we can discuss all the possibilities. It is suggested to call and set up a time for a free consultation. We only give price quotes in person at the studio by the artist doing the tattoo.

Each artist gives their own quotes. We will never charge you more then you were quoted unless you make changes to the design after the quote was made. But if it takes less time then quoted we will only charge for how long it took.
